Environmental, Social and
Corporate Governance (ESG)

Sama Investment Group was formed as an ethical business. This mandates us to adhere to the very highest standards of responsible business practices, from sustainability to social responsibility and corporate governance.

We are committed to making a positive difference through our ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) Transformation Strategy, embedding considerations about the environment, local community and wider society into all our business decisions and operations.

This means Sama’s schemes are ethical from concept to delivery, while creating lasting value for all our stakeholders.

Our Green Credentials

As an ethical developer and investor, Sama always strives to build better. We specialise in finding brownfield sites across Britain’s regions and regenerating them through responsible, sustainable developments that are both energy-efficient and material-efficient.

We select sites with good public transport links, reducing car dependency. We want our built environment to have minimal impact on the natural world, whilst also being beneficial to human health and wellbeing. It’s why our planning team will incorporate sustainable features such as bio-diversity walls, green spaces and communal assets from bike racks to communal gyms in our schemes.

As a result, our portfolio of properties and development schemes consistently generate high EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) and BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) ratings.

Social Responsibility

Sama’s ethical business structure requires us to be a socially responsible employer and organisation. Integrity matters, and so does caring for the needs of our stakeholders. We do this in a number of ways:

  • We are fair and positive in our relationships with staff, suppliers, investors, project partners, tenants, local authorities and other stakeholders, constantly striving for win-win outcomes
  • We provide a safe and healthy working environment for our employees and contractors, which includes flexible working
  • We support an inclusive and diverse workplace; in a male-dominated sector, we are proud that nearly half of our employees are women
  • We value local heritage; whether by restoring listed buildings or incorporating the site’s history through the names we give to our developments, helping to preserve their social and cultural significance to local communities
  • We give back to society through charitable donations and support charitable initiatives, whether it’s planting trees or donating Eid packs of clothes and toys for orphans and children in low-income families so they can enjoy the spirit of this special occasion.

Governance

Good governance is the bedrock of our success and our purpose as an ethical developer and investor goes beyond profit.

At Sama, we constantly seek to uphold the highest standards in corporate governance, putting accountability, transparency and sustainability at the heart of our business.

Our management framework is continually developing in line with best practice. We not only comply with all applicable British laws and regulations but, as a Sharia-compliant company, we have added layers of ethical standards to adhere to.
